arcade fire.

Another super neat band that I have recently fallen in love with is Arcade Fire. Like Sarah Jaffe, I also heard them for the first time on KXT. I had wanted to their new album for a while and was just waiting to purchase it but I wasn't presently surprised when my girlfriend gave it to me for my birthday. The band is an indie rock band from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Their music has a great sound and their lyrics are just genius. Their newest record is called "The Suburbs". The band members upbringing in the suburbs of Houston, Texas is what inspired many of the songs on the album. All the songs on the album are great and have a funky groove to them. After buying the album I happened to come upon a song of David Bowie's called "Life on Mars" that features Arcade Fire which was also very neat.
Something cool to also check out is a website called www.thewildernessdowntown.com. Its neat interactive site by Arcade Fire.

The new Facebook

It's been a while since Facebook has made any changes to its profile viewing options but recently they added a new look for its users. Of course their aim is to make the site a more user friendly place. Most people don't really care about the change and are still able to get around their Facebooks and creep but there are some who don't like the change and are taking a bit to adjust.
A person's information is posted much more clearly at the top of the page instead of a tab, allowing the viewer to access the person much easier. An example:
Another new change on this profile version is the photos of a person. The persons pictures are displayed at the top of the page as well. An example:
With the old Facebook the first thing one would see when viewing a someones profile was their status or a comment box to post something on their wall. Although the wall is still there the page is formatted to have a more appealing look and help the user have easier access to the full profile. Here is an example of the new version.

Bye Bye Four Lokos

As many of you have heard the malt-bevarage drink, Four Loko, has been banned from numerous campuses around the country. The drink has been deemed a "public health concern" by the FDA and production of the drinks may be stopped under federal law. Many students across the nation are upset with the recent elimination of one of the most popular malt beverages. The drinks combination with alcohol and caffeine is what have the FDA concerned. They claim that this combination is potential very dangerous for those consuming it. The caffeine mixed with alcohol can have counteracting effects. The caffeine in the drink keeps the person more alert and it sets back the feeling that alcohol causes which enables the person to continue drinking to achieve the feeling of being drunk. This either can lead to alcohol poisoning from an excessive amount of alcohol or it allows the person to do things they normally wouldn't do while drunk because of the amount of caffeine consumed. Either way the drink has been banned for safety reasons on many campuses around the nation and I completely agree with this action. I don't think this will end underage drinking but if its helps prevent accidents or deaths then why not ban it. At the same time I doubt this banning will stop people from mixing the two substances themselves.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Being in school limits the amount of time that I would like to play video games but I've learned to deal with it. For some reason when I buy a new video game, the first night I want to stay up all night and play. Call of Duty: Black Ops is no exception. I'm a big fan of Call of Duty so when Black Ops came out i had to have it, just like the rest of the gamers all over the world. The game has improved in many ways including stability, new courses, new options and especially the new nazi zombie courses. Many people think its wrong for adult men to spend so much time playing a video game but I believe we were raised as a gamer generation. Although there are a lot younger players as well, its all just fun. One of my favorite things about the new COD is the campaign mode. It has a historical take and makes events in history seem so much more realistic. In the end of campaign the player realizes that his character is in fact the shooter from the grassy knoll from JFKs assassination but the vents leading up to this moment are all very thrilling and also great practice for people who have never played the game before. Also in this new COD Nazi Zombies was brought back. All three courses offered for Zombies are cool but difficult.
I like the game so therefore I'm going to continue using the majority of my days to get further in the game but I'll occasionally stop to do some school work.....

BIG BANG THEORY

Black Friday is the name given to the day after Thanksgiving. All stores put up a great sale and people go on this shopping frenzy. I've personally never attended any of the 5 AM openings of any store or even really cared about Black Friday but this year I happened to stop by Target in the afternoon to pick up a few things and found something pretty cool. One of my favorite shows is a show called The Big Bang Theory. Its centered around four nerdy geniuses and a neighbor girl; the show itself is funny because of the guys social awkwardness and their interactions. Anyway, on this crazy Black Friday, my girlfriend and I were able to buy all three season for only twelve bucks each. Needless to say we watched every episode of these nerdy men over the rest of our Thanksgiving break. The actors are very talented and are able to stay in character very well and the only reason I say that is because of the extras offered at the end of the disks... Sheldon actually smiles.

Sarah Jaffe

I recently attended a Sarah Jaffe concert at The Loft here in Dallas. I have been a fan of Sarah Jaffe's for a while. I first heard her on KXT and quickly bought her albums and really enjoy her music. Sarah Jaffe is a local artist who is from Denton TX. She has a folky/acoustic voice and a awesome female singer. She has two records out right now that are both really good. She started out small, just preforming in Denton and now is touring nationally and is becoming the next big thing from Texas. At her recent show here in dallas she had New Roman Times and Caleb Ian Campbell open for... both were awesome and well worth getting there early to listen to. The Loft, the venue where it was at, is super personal. Its a very small area and Sarah was just hanging out in the crowd as her opening acts preformed. Overall shes awesome. Her music is very laid back, as is she.
