Twitter, why?

I don't like Twitter. I don't like what it stands for and I don't like what it has become. Everywhere you go all you hear is Twitter this and Twitter that. It has swept over America and has become the new thing. I do not understand America's need to update their status every five minutes or follow people to check what they are doing every few minutes. I joined Facebook because it was an easy way to keep in touch with old friends and I occasionally update things on there but Twitter seems like a whole new level of openness that in my opinion, isn't necessary. I just don't feel the need to announce to the world what I am currently doing or what my plans for the day are. To many Twitter may seem so harmless and just a new social network for many to join but to me it seems like an invasion of people's private lives. Yes it may be useful for some and for many people its just a way to receive announcements but sadly it has taken over the America and taking on a whole life of it's own. I do think it's okay to have a Twitter account but its completely ridiculous to make it the center of one's life.
